Wedding Bliss: DIY Projects

What is a wedding without any DIY ? Right? So today I will be taking you to some of my do-it-yourself projects that I made and incorporated in my wedding.  The layout of our invitation was made by yours truly. I have a soft spot for layout and design so I thought of doing our invitation to make it more personalized. This layout was made in Adobe Photoshop. But I decided to have it printed by BoxedPh . I really loved the outcome of our invitation. This is my personal Bible, so I wanted it to be a part of my wedding, too. The only thing is that it is too worn out because of old age and too much usage so I just tie pink ribbon and a little fabric flower for embellishment.  I made this corsage using fabric.  These flowers were worn by my Principal Sponsors on their wrists. Wedding Wands and confetti for grand exit of the couple My Bridesmaids' flowers were handmade by yours truly using different kinds of fabric. Someone asked me if I am selling...

Wedding Bliss: Wedding Souvenirs

Today's Wedding Bliss episode will be short and sweet. Just sharing with you our souvenirs during our Wedding. I wanted to give something unique for my principal sponsors and I have been eyeing succulents/cacti during our wedding preps. Good thing, I have a friend who sells cacti and she gave me huge discount for each pot. If you want the same souvenir, you may contact PLANTS ON CUPS on their FB Page . The owner, She, will be happy to rearrange plants according to your preference. This little one is for our wedding guests. We actually wanted something either reusable or edible. Who doesn't like to receive a jar of delicious jam, right? Beerenberg is known to supply 5-star hotels around the metro so we thought this sample size is perfect for our guests to have a taste of fine dining. Also, I think they could reuse the jar for whatever purpose they like. We just attached a little "Thank You Card" for a little bit of presentation. We bought our Beerenberg J...

Wedding Bliss: Requirements for Marriage in the Philippines

So, you've decided to get married and you booked your first few wedding suppliers. You started ticking off your wedding checklist. Everything is a bliss... until...the boring paperwork. But of course if you want to get married, you have to make sure it is LEGAL. Right? So, if you are one of those who are about to tie the knot, let me help you by giving you a list of the legal documents you will be needing. Birth Certificate (PSA Copy) -  (6 months validity)   We got our Birth Certificate at SM North Edsa because it was so convenient to get it there. The only con is that you have to wait for 10 business days before receiving this document. You can get it also in PSA Main Office but let me warn you that it was the worst government office sysyem I have ever experienced so I am not going to recommend you going your PSA copy there. But pro is that you can get it there the same day Certificate of No Marriage -  (6 months validity)  We also obtain this do...

Wedding Bliss: The Sassy Host, Miss Nathalie Salcedo

I honestly don't know how to start talking about our wedding host, Miss Nathalie Salcedo. I think I am still in awe on how amazing her hosting skills was during our wedding. I get asked a lot about her, where we met her, who is she, and/or if she's a celebrity or something. My guests told me two common things about her : she's a good host and she's so pretty. The truth is-- there are also only two things I am sure about her: She's a good host... and she's so pretty! Miss Nat was booked later on the wedding planning, so I didn't know much about her. We booked her less than a month before the wedding through our wedding coor (and through phone only) so I really didn't get the chance to talk to her only until the wedding day itself. The reasons why it took me a long time to book a host were: 1. I didn't know any professional host who haven't hosted any of my friend's wedding. I didn't want want to steal take a friend...

Wedding Bliss: Anne Grace Lu, The Professional Makeup Artist

How can I not mention one of the first few suppliers that I booked, my wedding makeup artist, Miss Anne Grace Lu. She's been on my radar since 2013 (or something) when she did my makeup on my friend's wedding. I was the maid of honor back then and I really loved how she did my makeup so I didn't forget about her. Every time people will ask me if I know someone who can do wedding makeup, I would always refer Miss Anne because I know she can deliver. I really believe in her ability and of course I would not refer someone who will ruin me. Miss Anne, in return, never disappoint. Her clients would always love how she do makeup. Come my wedding and of course, lalayo pa ba ako? I booked her and I was so happy she will always be part of my happiest day. Here are the reasons why I chose Miss Anne: 1. Natural makeup I think what I liked most about her is her ability to enhance the client's face without overdoing it. It looked natural and not over the top. It di...

Wedding Bliss: How I Met My Wedding Gown

One of the things that dreaded me during wedding preps was finding a beautiful wedding gown. I am a proud plus-size woman but I wasn't sure what really suits my body shape. I also long for a wedding ball gown but I wasn't sure if it was the right cut for my physique. Also, I didn't really want to spend so much on my gown because I have seen brides who didn't have expensive gowns and they looked beautiful nonetheless. So off we went to the land of inexpensive wedding gowns and gown designers: DIVISORIA. And boy, we were drowned by the amount of wedding gowns there. Different cuts, different style, different prices. After a couple of days of canvassing, we found this place 11/88 (the mall in front of 999 and at the back of 168 that sells beautiful ball gowns and I happen to meet "Ate" who was so nice to accommodate us. She said I could have my gown designed by their "boss" so I could have a gown that I really love. When I ...

Wedding Bliss: The Importance of Wedding Coordinator (Quintessence Philippines)

I am quite surprised that even after being married for almost a year now, I still get a ton of queries regarding wedding details and such. One common question I get is this: "Do I really need a wedding day coordinator?". My answer is always, always this big YES. Well, based on my experience, you can get away without an over-all full wedding coordinator because you can do the planning alone. However- and very important, I must say, that you get an on-the-day-coordinator . And please do get a legit one, not your friends or family, but a professional wedding coor. (Your friends want to enjoy the moment, too, so please don't give them yet another job to do. They can assist you in little things, but please leave everything to a legit coor.) Some reasons why I think a professional on-the-day wedding coordinator is a must: 1. Stress-free wedding.  The least I wanted to be during my wedding is to be the stressed-bride. I have been to weddings without coordinators and I tell...

Wedding Bliss: Reception @ St. Joseph Serenity with Idha's Catering

Photo credits to Idha's Catering FB page If our wedding church is a default, our reception venue is a different matter because this was something we really have to think twice, thrice, even ten times before finally deciding it was "the place". I think we spent two to three weekends just to explore the whole vicinity of Valenzuela City for our venue. We were basically looking for these requirements: 1.  Air-conditioned -  this is a must because our wedding fell during summer time in this humid country. If you have been to the Philippines, you know that humidity in Summertime is something they call "deadly" (e.g. Heat Stroke), so we couldn't afford not to have air conditioned venue. 2.  Has rooms  that can accommodate our families 3.  Inexpensive 4.  Near our chosen church  So, we listed down some famous wedding venues in Valenzuela and we visited each venue to really see and feel if it was the one we were looking ...

Wedding Bliss: Catholic Wedding @ San Juan dela Cruz Parish

June is known to be the wedding month and I think there's a little truth to that because I personally have been to two weddings in this month alone- and it's only June 10 as I type this. I heard it's because June was coined after the Goddess of Love, Juno. So, in lieu of this wedding season, I thought of doing a Wedding Series called Wedding Bliss where I talk about our suppliers when we got married April last year and some other wedding pointers. I will first start with our Wedding Church, which is  San Juan dela Cruz Parish in Valenzuela City. This church is a default choice because this is where me and my husband met (both of us are in music ministry) so if not for this church, I wouldn't have met my husband. Also, serving in this church for almost a decade made it not just a place of worship, but a second home to us, too. All our friends are also parishioners from SJDC, including our Parish Priest, Father Mulong, who is also the presiding priest during our we...

TURNING PAGES: Outliers by Malcolm Gladwell

When I was in kindergarten, I had a hard time understanding Math specifically the lesson in  “greater than- less than-equal to” equations. My mother, being a teacher, helped me understand the lesson by using analogy . In a manner of storytelling, she told me that the sign corresponding greater than/less than/equal to is  Pacman  (the famous computer game back then), while the numbers in the equation represent the amount of apples . She told me I have to point Pacman’s mouth to the larger amount so he can eat more apples. I never failed at greater than/less than/equal to lesson ever again. SOURCE: h ttp://prekandksharing.blogspot.com/2012/08/montessori-inspired-greater-than-less.html Outliers  by Malcolm Gladwell is a lot like my mom’s way of teaching me Math. It is composed of analogies and stories that helped me understand the wisdom behind success. It will not tell you what to do, it will ask you to analyze the roots of success and w...

My PIERCINGS- Accidents, Stories, Reasons.. etc.

Elow elow elow Dear Reader! So, today, I bought new set of earrings and I realized, I haven't really talked about my piercing experience. So, I thought maybe I should answer some common questions about my piercings and piercing in general. How many piercings do you have? As of the moment, I have a total of six individual piercings. Three on the left ear, three on the right. When did you get them and why? 1. The first pair was done when I was four or five years old. I remember my father bringing me to a little health center and telling me to just tilt my head and that was it. I don't have much to say about this piercing because it was like a "default" kind of thing - sort of a tradition or one of those mandatory things a girl has to go through-  so nothing special in this pair. Also, I was too young to remember how it felt like. Too young to even comprehend. But I remember being happy having the privilege to wear such pretty gold earrings. I had the rest ...

Inspired by Mona Lisa Smile: Christian Dior Rouge Dolce Vita 014

Once a gay friend told me, "Red lipstick is so back then." I immediately replied back and told him a true lady would say otherwise. For a real woman, red lipstick is a timeless weapon to look and feel beautiful. My first lipstick is a red one and up until now, even if I have other shades of lipsticks, red will always be on my stash. So, today, I thought of highlighting the most precious red lipstick I own, my precious baby,  Christian Dior’s Rouge Dolce Vita in #014. Timeless as it is, the inspiration for today's lipstick is the movie The Mona Lisa Smile which is set in 1950's. Just like the girls in the movie,  Christian Dior’s Rouge Dolce Vita in #014 is not in-your-face retro red lipstick because it has a slight hint of orange. Source "That's a snapshot"- Mona Lisa Smile It has a semi-matte finish but very creamy, it glides smoothly on the lips when applied. This is not for the faint heart because it is too striking and...

Review: Maybelline Colorsensational Lipstick in Honey Nectar

Hello, marvellous! I'm back with another review and today I am showing you the best pink lipstick I ever had so far. As I recall, my last pink lipstick review was Revlon Stormy pink and it wasn't a good love story. I also remembered buying Nyx Narcissus and it's just plain wrong for my tan skin -  I was screaming Nikki Minaj. But then, after months of wearing either a nude lipstick ( In2it Orange Fizz ) or red lipstick ( CD Rouge Allure ), I am craving for something flashy, girly, and colorful. So, I took on the plunge and went on for my search for the perfect pink shade. A little walk along SM Beauty Section led me to a new found love for pink lipstick. Let me introduce my new baby love,  Maybelline Honey Nectar! This lipstick is Maybelline's Pink Alert collectio and I am really in awe of how pretty this one looks on me. COLOR: Maybelline Honey Nectar is straight up bright pink color that is leaning towards feaushia fuchia feachia fuchsia s...

NAIL PARAPHERNALIA: New Things to Try

This might come as a shock but I am a former nail biter. It is pretty ironic that this girl who loves to blog about nails is a former nail biter. Funny right?  Basically, I just realized that the cause of my disgusting habit is my addiction to my nails. So, instead of pricking on my nails, why not turn it into something positive and make my nails pretty instead? So, as I dove into colorful world of nail arts, and since I've just started to become a nail blogger, I am also slowly opening myself up to some manicure paraphernalia.  Nail Stickers, I like it subtle and classy 1. Nail Stickers. I am not a fan of nail stickers. I bought this one because I just want to try it out and if maybe I will like it. This one stood out because it looks subtle and I felt it would look great on top of a white nail polish. I actually tried it once and I must say it is okay but I am still not so obsessed with it.  --- Flocking Powder, husband of glitters, acco...

Pieces of My Month March

Happy Tuesday everyone! I have just realized that the first quarter of 2014 have passed and I am loving my year so far. There are times when I wish I could have done more but I guess it's better to give myself a pat on the back and celebrate my successes rather than being too harsh on myself. Sometimes, I tend to forget I can only do enough. First week of March, I was able to celebrate Fat Tuesday with my church friends. Fat Tuesday, if you have no idea what it is, is  the day before Ash Wednesday--the start of Lenten season.  Since Fat Tuesday is the day before fasting and abstinence, devout Catholics are having a merry gathering of food and laughter before pursuing a month of sacrifice and soul-searching.   Aside from the beginning of Lenten season, March also marks the start of summer. I had an early summer with my friends at Bakas River, Norzagaray, Bulacan. The place is such a marvellous tranquil, perfect for escaping the urban life. . ...

Curly Find: Dove Nourishing Curls Whipped Cream Mousse

Living in a country where straight hair rules, finding a good styling product for the curly hair is such a pain in the ey-ess-ess. For the past few months, I've been experimenting on different hair products, mixing and jumbling all sorts of creams, mousse, gels, etc etc. Product after product, layers after layers.  I honestly sometimes feel like going back to straight hair is way easier and economical, than spending so much money on hair products, but then I do love my current buhahag hairstyle- I feel some sense of uniqueness and personality with this kind of hair- so I think I wold just go on with this journey and just enjoy every part of it. So, today, I thought I would share my experience with this Dove Nourishing Curls Whipped Cream Mousse.  This is by far, my favorite mousse cream for my curly hair. Let me tell you some of my opinions regarding this product.  1. SMELL - Oh. Goodness. I love the smell of this one right out of the can. This is...
