Make a State-mint!

Hello Marvellous! This has been a long and overdue post about this product, I think I mentioned it in one of my pieces of my month posts. I missed doing nail polish swatches (which is basically some of my very first topic on this blog.) To be honest, yellow nail polish doesn't really suit my olive skin tone so I stay away from this color as much as possible, but there are some instances wherein I feel like wearing it just cause.... Sometimes I like being weird and funky so I wear this to create this juxtaposition of bright yellow nails over my morena skin. Sally Hansen Statemint is a bright yellow polish with a hint of a light mint green, hence the play on word "state-mint". It comes in this bottle that has a separate cap to prevent drying and increase longevity of the polish. Just like other Sally Hansen polishes, it has this wide brush that some people are not really fond of because it is too wide! Really! Although, I can work with it but have...

Inspired by Zooey Deschanel

Hello, marvellous!! Just a quick nail art recreation for all of you. This is not the first time I adored Zooey's nails.  Every time I watch her in "New Girl," I can't help but check out her nails.  She loves to wear cute and quirky nail arts that perfectly match her equally quirky personality. So, today, I thought of doing a simple nail art she wore some time years ago.  Truth is, I am not really sure where and when she wore this one.  I think I grabbed this photo a year ago and buried it deep into my computer files.  However, as I rearrange my files last week, this picture came about and I thought of finally recreating the design. As you can see it is just so simple yet so cute.  Here are the steps: First, put some purple base color on. Next, put on some scotch tape at the tip of the nails to serve as a guide. Then, paint the tips with violet nail polish. Then, before the violet polish gets dry, peel off the tap...

Pink is Warm, Red is Hot : Sassy Colors Shade-shifting Nail Polish

Color-changing nail polish has been around for forever and I honestly find the idea corny, but I guess it's really clever. Don't you think? These nail polishes change color once the temperature of your surroundings has changed. It reminds me of mood rings during high school when I was so naive to believe a particular color-changing ring can translate my mood into colors. Anyways, today's nail polish is from Sassy's Shade-shifting Nail Polish line that I bought only because I was drawn by the marketing skills of the sales attendant. Also, I want to try it myself so I can show it here on my blog since I haven't done any nail-related post for months now. This is only P50.00 (equivalent to a dollar) so I guess it's enough for fun-filled nail polish experience.  This shade is called Warm and Sunny and it changes from a sheer light pink color to coral reddish pink. This is what it looks like in different water temperature.  WARM  Room temperature, no ...

Nail Paraphernalia: Nail Art Stuff and Nail Care Thingies

Hello everyone!!! Since this blog came about, I have been hoarding over nail art thingies and stuff for my nails. I thought I might share with you guys some of them so here it is. Just a disclaimer, I didn't accumulate these things in one shopping, and they are not expensive anyways so don't treat this as a bragging or some sort. Blings for Nails Crystal Nail File- perfect for brittle nails Nail Pusher Dotting Tool for Nail art designs Fake nails for practice Buffer Buffer (finally, I won't have to put cotton on my toes just to keep them apart while doing pedicure) Stickers from Wish Nail Stickers bought from Pandayan Bookshop More Nail Stickers bought from Pandayan bookshop I think that's all I have for now. Till my next post. Bye!

Inspired by the Holidays: Christmas Nail Art

Today's nail design is inspired by the grandest season of all, which obviously is the Christmas season. I've been meaning to post this design for a while but I don't really know why I keep pushing it aside. Today, as the first week of December came to pass, I promised myself to post this one. In this design, I tried to mimic the colorful season of Christmas. With red as a base color, I put some gold on the tips and some glitters for accent. I also tried on some flower stickers for the poncentias. This is such an ostentatious design but then that's the beauty of Holidays, you can be as extravagant as you want. That's all for now, marvellous!!! See you all next time! MERRY CHRISTMAS!!!

Pray for the Philippines

I am not so much of a patriotic kind but the recent devastation caused by Typhoon Yolanda/Haiyan led me to care about my country, the Philippines. We weren't directly hit by the storm surge since we are living far from Tacloban City but I felt really involved in this massive tragedy. Days before Yolanda came, different warnings were announced regarding the typhoon. We were told to keep safe. I also remembered listening to different guidelines on how to survive the typhoon. November 8 came, it was a Friday. I've read from social media sites that Yolanda officially entered the Philippine Area of Responsibility. There were heavy rains here in Manila but it wasn't too strong to kill a person but I've seen some "personal" videos posted on the Internet on how strong the typhoon was in other parts of the country. I got scared. The next morning, weather in Manila was perfect. It was windy and sunny at the same time. I remembered staying in our terrace and ...

NAIL PARAPHERNALIA: New Things to Try

This might come as a shock but I am a former nail biter. It is pretty ironic that this girl who loves to blog about nails is a former nail biter. Funny right?  Basically, I just realized that the cause of my disgusting habit is my addiction to my nails. So, instead of pricking on my nails, why not turn it into something positive and make my nails pretty instead? So, as I dove into colorful world of nail arts, and since I've just started to become a nail blogger, I am also slowly opening myself up to some manicure paraphernalia.  Nail Stickers, I like it subtle and classy 1. Nail Stickers. I am not a fan of nail stickers. I bought this one because I just want to try it out and if maybe I will like it. This one stood out because it looks subtle and I felt it would look great on top of a white nail polish. I actually tried it once and I must say it is okay but I am still not so obsessed with it.  --- Flocking Powder, husband of glitters, acco...

Cute Wearable Nail Art Designs

Nail art is definitely a trend these days especially the DIY-able ones. (I just read the word DIY-able somewhere in the Internet and I just really want to use it though I am not sure if it is really a word.) Years ago, the word " nail art " is often connoted to an over-the-top manicure that somehow scares other girls and not for the faint heart. It used to be very intricate and complicated that not all girls can wear such for everyday. However, lately, simple and cute nail arts are winning the hearts of many girly girls out there (including yours truly). Nail arts have now evolved from being so unwearable to cute wearable ones. Some of the nail art designs that you can try doing now are these two famous designs. 1. Flower Nails a. Choose a base color ( I used a light pink polish.) b. If you don't have a dotting tool, you can use toothpick, match or an old ball point pen. c. Put five dots for petals. I used red for a beautiful red flower. To create t...

Inspired by Legally Blonde: Pink and Marvellous

Since this blog is unexpectedly becoming a nail fetish den, I would like to give you yet another nail design inspired by a movie. Just on my previous post, I was talking about Miss Elle Woods and her affirmation that a manicure makes a girl feel better no matter what (although technically, it was her friends who told her that). It was a funny affirmation but there is truth to it. So, today, I thought of dedicating this pink nail design to Miss Elle Woods, our Legally Blonde. . I was a young high school girl when I first saw the movie Legally Blonde and it is one of my favorite movies back then. I also made a high school movie review for our English subject. That's how I love this movie. Miss Elle Woods is definitely a pink girl, thus the pink nails. I add some pink animal print to the design because she is a certified pet lover to her lovely dog, Bruiser Woods, and she really loves to accent her strike on pink environment with a pink animal print. She also doesn'...

Inspired by the Glitter Sale

As of this writing, I just came home from a little retail therapy at Trinoma. I went straight to Landmark nail polish section and I saw a lot of girls are piling up in front of a table. Out of curiousity, I checked it out and realized they have this promo: "Free Application for every 100 pesos nail art supply you bought." WOW! That's a good deal I suppose since I am really planning to buy some nail art thingies anyways. Then, I saw two girls who are having their nails done and I must say they really look so pretty so I decided to try it as well. "Yes, I have touched glitters in the last 24 hours... but it doesn't mean I'm not strong, or tough and strong..." - Ms. Jessica Day, New Girl I chose turquoise glitters because I saw this girl in the table and her nails are in turquoise so I decided to do the same for my nails. They look so freaking beautiful. The attendant first put OMG Nail Polish in Mojito my nails, then she just simply dip my n...

Inspired by The Great Gatsby: Golds and Glitz

My brother and I were talking about the film "The Great Gatsby" and it's quite amusing how we both have different views regarding the said movie. I liked the movie a lot, he thinks otherwise. He said the movie is quite mushy for his liking. I really liked the movie because it has shown a glamorous but empty life of a social climber who cannot be satisfied by his present because he is driven by his past and imaginary future.  So today's nail design is inspired by this movie where there's lot of golds and shimmers all throughout the entire movie. Aside from the plot, what I like about the movie is the usage of color to represent the character and the scene. Since this is a movie about money and social statuses, gold and glitters are definitely the best elements to represent The Great Gatsby. Here's how to do this easy nail design: 1. Use a good base coat to protect your nails. Here, I used  Bobbie Base Nail Hardener. 2. Put any gold nail...

Curly Find: Dove Nourishing Curls Whipped Cream Mousse

Living in a country where straight hair rules, finding a good styling product for the curly hair is such a pain in the ey-ess-ess. For the past few months, I've been experimenting on different hair products, mixing and jumbling all sorts of creams, mousse, gels, etc etc. Product after product, layers after layers.  I honestly sometimes feel like going back to straight hair is way easier and economical, than spending so much money on hair products, but then I do love my current buhahag hairstyle- I feel some sense of uniqueness and personality with this kind of hair- so I think I wold just go on with this journey and just enjoy every part of it. So, today, I thought I would share my experience with this Dove Nourishing Curls Whipped Cream Mousse.  This is by far, my favorite mousse cream for my curly hair. Let me tell you some of my opinions regarding this product.  1. SMELL - Oh. Goodness. I love the smell of this one right out of the can. This is...

TURNING PAGES: Outliers by Malcolm Gladwell

When I was in kindergarten, I had a hard time understanding Math specifically the lesson in  “greater than- less than-equal to” equations. My mother, being a teacher, helped me understand the lesson by using analogy . In a manner of storytelling, she told me that the sign corresponding greater than/less than/equal to is  Pacman  (the famous computer game back then), while the numbers in the equation represent the amount of apples . She told me I have to point Pacman’s mouth to the larger amount so he can eat more apples. I never failed at greater than/less than/equal to lesson ever again. SOURCE: h ttp://prekandksharing.blogspot.com/2012/08/montessori-inspired-greater-than-less.html Outliers  by Malcolm Gladwell is a lot like my mom’s way of teaching me Math. It is composed of analogies and stories that helped me understand the wisdom behind success. It will not tell you what to do, it will ask you to analyze the roots of success and w...

My PIERCINGS- Accidents, Stories, Reasons.. etc.

Elow elow elow Dear Reader! So, today, I bought new set of earrings and I realized, I haven't really talked about my piercing experience. So, I thought maybe I should answer some common questions about my piercings and piercing in general. How many piercings do you have? As of the moment, I have a total of six individual piercings. Three on the left ear, three on the right. When did you get them and why? 1. The first pair was done when I was four or five years old. I remember my father bringing me to a little health center and telling me to just tilt my head and that was it. I don't have much to say about this piercing because it was like a "default" kind of thing - sort of a tradition or one of those mandatory things a girl has to go through-  so nothing special in this pair. Also, I was too young to remember how it felt like. Too young to even comprehend. But I remember being happy having the privilege to wear such pretty gold earrings. I had the rest ...

Inspired by JLO's Nude Lips: In2it Moisture Intense Lipstick in Orange Fizz

I have always been on the hunt for a nice nude lipstick that can beautifully mute my pigmented lips. The desire to rummage around for the best neutral lipstick started when I would always see myself being drawn to wearing dark hues of eyeshadows, only to find out I have no nude lipstick to pair it with. I would always end up wearing light pink lipstick which I think is just fine but I wish I could have a neutral colored lipstick so the eyeshadows can pop rather than making the lipstick clash to the eye make-up. Should I say my hunt is always a fail. Sometimes, it’s too pale, too light, a lot of browns, lots of pinks, always a fail. What I really want to have is the kind of lipstick that will definitely erase my lips but won’t make me appear sickly. Arrrgh! Women are such confused beings! Anyways, this is how nude I want my lipstick to be… Girl crushing is on! I always wonder how JLO rock the nude up until I saw I video of youtuber Jenn Im where the girl uses not brown or light...

Inspired by Mona Lisa Smile: Christian Dior Rouge Dolce Vita 014

Once a gay friend told me, "Red lipstick is so back then." I immediately replied back and told him a true lady would say otherwise. For a real woman, red lipstick is a timeless weapon to look and feel beautiful. My first lipstick is a red one and up until now, even if I have other shades of lipsticks, red will always be on my stash. So, today, I thought of highlighting the most precious red lipstick I own, my precious baby,  Christian Dior’s Rouge Dolce Vita in #014. Timeless as it is, the inspiration for today's lipstick is the movie The Mona Lisa Smile which is set in 1950's. Just like the girls in the movie,  Christian Dior’s Rouge Dolce Vita in #014 is not in-your-face retro red lipstick because it has a slight hint of orange. Source "That's a snapshot"- Mona Lisa Smile It has a semi-matte finish but very creamy, it glides smoothly on the lips when applied. This is not for the faint heart because it is too striking and...
