Revlon Colorstay Foundation Review

Yes, definitely, Revlon Colorstay is here to stay.

I believe that the greatest asset of Revlon Colorstay Foundation is the foundation formula itself. You may hate it for any other reasons such as no pump, limited color selection, and tricky application, but you will definitely keep on reaching out for this foundie because the formula itself is so irresistible in terms of coverage, longevity, and finish that somehow you finally understood why this drugstore foundation have created a cult in the beauty arena.

Revlon Colorstay Foundation Review and Swatch

Did I just make a little speech out of Revlon Colorstay Foundation? That I did. Haha. Consider that as my affirmation that I am now a follower of this product. I love it to pieces. Let me break down to you my review on this foundation. I have mixed feelings over this product so let me count the ways.

PROS:
Let us start by giving you a couple of reasons why I love this product.

1. Coverage
There is a reason why this has been a cult favorite, and that would have to be the coverage. It amazingly covers up blemishes and minor skin imperfections. I use this on my clients because it has medium to full coverage, which makes this foundation perfect for events and photoshoots. I love love love the coverage of this one.

2. Longevity
Another thing that makes this foundation a strong competitor in the battle of drugstore foundies is its longevity. It stays on the skin pretty well even on hot days. As you may know, I live in the Philippines, which is scary humid and this foundation, for some reason, becomes better as humidity pushes through. It stays put, it doesn't melt down, and it even blends well on the skin as the humid day goes along. This is also the reason why I use this on my clients because I want to make sure their make-up stays on for longer period of time.

3. Satin/Velvet Finish
The finish of this foundation is so smooth and velvet-ish. It is not flat, almost but not matte, not at all dewy. It is so soft to touch, not liquidy, and kind of powdery. This is probably the reason why I bought this product because every time I test swatch this on Revlon counters, I would keep on touching my hand and I just love how it feels. That's when I realized I got to have this foundation.

With Foundation / Without Foundation
In this photo, I used Medium Beige to cover the other side. As you can see, it covers up the whole skin pretty well. This doesn't match my hand skin tone but it slightly matches my face. This is slightly pinkish for me, but then, I can still fix this with a yellow-toned finishing powder and it looks perfect. I used this shade on some of my clients and it's a perfect match for them. I am happy to have this shade on my kit. Although, I am still on the lookout for a better shade, particularly with yellow tone.
CONS:
After giving you some insights why I love the product, let me just give you some things I hate.

1. Color Selection
I hate that they have limited color selection here in the Philippines, and most of the shades available here is on the pink/beige side. I hope there is more yellow-toned shades that are available here in the Philippines because most Filipinas are yellow-toned anyways.

2. No Pump
I thought I can get away with no-pump foundation, but then when I was doing a makeup gig, I was literally cursing Revlon for not putting pump on this thing. It is effin messy- like really messy- like OMG this is messy. Also, there is this possibility of wasting too much product because you just can't control the product. I really had a hard time pouring this on my mixing palette and I just wish there is a pump. A little update though, I think two weeks ago, I have seen from an online seller that new productions of this foundation have pumps. So, maybe once I'm finished with this one, I will try that one out.

3. Tricky Application
This is a thick foundation and settles in pretty quick so you got to be very careful when applying it. The best way, from my experience, is through a flat foundation brush. In this way, you are not over-applying it and you are just putting the right amount of product on the skin. Also, just work on one part of the skin first, blend well, before moving on to the next part. Do not put like streaks here and there before blending because this will give you a hard time blending the product since it dries off pretty quickly.

4. Hard to see the foundation color from the outside
The bottle is made of thick glass so it's hard to identify the shades. Sand Beige and Medium Beige look exactly the same from the outside but Sand Beige is way lighter than Medium Beige. This is why it is very hard to choose the perfect match color for this foundation. My advice is to go to Revlon counters, swatch it yourself, and maybe ask the advice of the sales assistant (they are there to help, you know). Just don't rely on what you see on the outside.

Eewww. Goo.
One of the cons of this foundation is that it has no pump which makes it really messy to use. You also waste a lot of product because you have limited control. I really had a hard time pouring the product out of the bottle. Also, since there is no pump, foundation goo is settling around the cap and on the bottle neck which makes it look unsanitary and not appealing at all.

If you are planning to buy this foundation, I found this shade guide from Pinterest so you will have an idea, but then I still suggest you go to Revlon counters to see the shades yourself.

TURNING PAGES: Outliers by Malcolm Gladwell

When I was in kindergarten, I had a hard time understanding Math specifically the lesson in  “greater than- less than-equal to” equations. My mother, being a teacher, helped me understand the lesson by using analogy . In a manner of storytelling, she told me that the sign corresponding greater than/less than/equal to is  Pacman  (the famous computer game back then), while the numbers in the equation represent the amount of apples . She told me I have to point Pacman’s mouth to the larger amount so he can eat more apples. I never failed at greater than/less than/equal to lesson ever again. It is composed of analogies and stories that helped me understand the wisdom behind success. It will not tell you what to do, it will ask you to analyze the roots of success and what lies behind the equation

Kulot Not Salot: My Curly Hair Routine

I'm still surprised when friends won't believe when I tell them my hair is naturally curly and that I never had a digi perm or any curling method done. People have been seeing me with rebonded straight hair for the past 12 years, (I thought it was only 10) and they have kind of believed my hair is naturally straight. And frankly, I, too, have forgotten how I looked like with curly hair. I have to rummage a box of old photos to help me remember how my curls looked like a decade ago and why do I even have it straightened. Was it that bad? After almost an hour of looking for old photos of my natural curls- this I realized to my chagrin - I rarely wore my curly hair down when I was a teenager. That was basically the reason why I had my hair rebonded. I did not know what to do with my curls. I did not know how to maximize my curls, its beauty, how to style it, how to play with it. And also- hair entails personality. You see, living in this country,

Review: In2it Waterproof Single Blush in Charm

This post is dedicated to my boyfriend's sister who loves to rave about in2it products. She loves the brand so much she's literally into it. (Can I get an A for that intro?) Anyways, one of the things I noticed about her is the beautiful shine she has on her cheeks - not greasy type of shine - but a lovely flash of highlight. So, I thought of trying out in2it's blush for the first time. When I went there, most of their blushes were sold out. The sales assistant said their blushes are their best sellers- no doubt about it. So, I asked her what shade can she recommend for my skin tone and she confidently suggested the shade "Charm." I tried out some of their blushes, pink ones in general, but Charm really stood out for me. The sales assistant was right, Charm definitely suites me better. In2it Waterproof Single Blush in Charm is a peach blush with gold shimmers. I, for one, am afraid of shimmers because my face tends to become very oily and to add more shi

Inspired by Mona Lisa Smile: Christian Dior Rouge Dolce Vita 014

Once a gay friend told me, "Red lipstick is so back then." I immediately replied back and told him a true lady would say otherwise. For a real woman, red lipstick is a timeless weapon to look and feel beautiful. My first lipstick is a red one and up until now, even if I have other shades of lipsticks, red will always be on my stash. So, today, I thought of highlighting the most precious red lipstick I own, my precious baby,  Christian Dior’s Rouge Dolce Vita in #014. Timeless as it is, the inspiration for today's lipstick is the movie The Mona Lisa Smile which is set in 1950's. Just like the girls in the movie,  Christian Dior’s Rouge Dolce Vita in #014 is not in-your-face retro red lipstick because it has a slight hint of orange. Source "That's a snapshot"- Mona Lisa Smile It has a semi-matte finish but very creamy, it glides smoothly on the lips when applied. This is not for the faint heart because it is too striking and

Curly Find: Dove Nourishing Curls Whipped Cream Mousse

Living in a country where straight hair rules, finding a good styling product for the curly hair is such a pain in the ey-ess-ess. For the past few months, I've been experimenting on different hair products, mixing and jumbling all sorts of creams, mousse, gels, etc etc. Product after product, layers after layers.  I honestly sometimes feel like going back to straight hair is way easier and economical, than spending so much money on hair products, but then I do love my current buhahag hairstyle- I feel some sense of uniqueness and personality with this kind of hair- so I think I wold just go on with this journey and just enjoy every part of it. So, today, I thought I would share my experience with this Dove Nourishing Curls Whipped Cream Mousse.  This is by far, my favorite mousse cream for my curly hair. Let me tell you some of my opinions regarding this product.  1. SMELL - Oh. Goodness. I love the smell of this one right out of the can. This is the best-

Honeymoon in Palawan: Bakers Hill, Buttterfly Garden, Immaculate Conception Cathedral

So, after two days spent in El Nido Tour A , Tour C , and the ever famous Underground River, we continue our Palawan escapade via our rented motorcycle. After Mitra's Ranch , we went to Baker's Hill, Immaculate Conception Cathedral, and Butterfly Garden.  This is one of the several posts I made about our Trip to Palawan. Later did I know that it is actually a theme park with bakery inside.  BUTTERFLY GARDEN One of my favorite attractions in Puerto Princesa, Butterfly Garden is the home to hundre

Pray for the Philippines

I am not so much of a patriotic kind but the recent devastation caused by Typhoon Yolanda/Haiyan led me to care about my country, the Philippines. We weren't directly hit by the storm surge since we are living far from Tacloban City but I felt really involved in this massive tragedy. Days before Yolanda came, different warnings were announced regarding the typhoon. We were told to keep safe. I also remembered listening to different guidelines on how to survive the typhoon. November 8 came, it was a Friday. I've read from social media sites that Yolanda officially entered the Philippine Area of Responsibility. There were heavy rains here in Manila but it wasn't too strong to kill a person but I've seen some "personal" videos posted on the Internet on how strong the typhoon was in other parts of the country. I got scared. The next morning, weather in Manila was perfect. It was windy and sunny at the same time. I remembered staying in our terrace and
