New Year, New Traincase

Make-up is a hobby I can no longer resist, that I must admit. I am in love.  Though some may see cosmetics as artificial and materialistic, I see it as art, full of techniques and colors. I no longer see it as vanity, I see it as a skill to enhance what is already there, to bring out what is hidden, and to somehow create what is missing. I look at the actresses in TV and looked at the details of their blush or shadows or even the shape of their eyes and I tried to imagine what did the makeup artist applyon their face. I long to do more of this, and I hope I can continue this passion.

Anyhoo, if that ain't being too melodramatic about makeup, let me continue by happily sharing with you, dear reader, that I finally got a traincase. Saying that, I feel like having a traincase seals the deal of me pursuing a career in makeup artistry. I did not waste my christmas wishlist just because I want to have a metal box to store all my makeup in. I wished for a traincase because of a need- a deep need to say goodbye to my plastic containers and papers bags, and to finally have a decent, chic, professional looking case to travel with me whenever I have make-up shenanigans. Also, I need one to protect all my makeup when transporting them to other place. I always have this fear I will lose or drop every makeup I carry, it's funny but yes, one of my greatest fears is to damage or lose all my makeup.

Speaking of the traincase, I've been lemming for one for about a month now and I've done all my research on the Internet, so when my handsome Santa surprisingly invited me to go out so he can buy me a traincase, I just know where to go.

So, before further ado, let me present my baby. I still have to name her, but yeah, this is her...

We got this traincase from a small beauty store inside Manila City Plaza in Quiapo. If you are not familiar with Quiapo, it's like a huge wild marketplace and almost everything is being sold there. The building is beside Quiapo church with the sign "Manila City Plaza", go straight to third floor. Once you see Jollibee, just look into your left and you will see at the corner a stall selling all sorts of materials for beauty salons (cape, clips, ear caps, hair caps, velcros, curlers, etc.) You may not be able to see the traincases on display so just ask the sales assistant for some help. I did a little sketch map to give you an idea where to go. This particular traincase costs P1500 but we got it for less because hey- we haggled! ("Ate, bawasan mo naman, baka pwede mas mababa sa one five?") - Truth is,  I could have haggled for less than what we paid for but I feel so overwhelmed with a new traincase in front of me and the sales assistant seems to be so tired from all the holiday rush going on so we just ended up buying this for P1400.

Okay, going back to the traincase, I am surprised that this traincase is so elegant looking, you can hardly tell it is priced less than 1500. Outside, it is made of black semi matte covering with silver metal linings. I have seen traincases from branded companies and this one is comparable to those (if not better). I chose the black one instead of the silver one because because personally black looks more elegant and looks more expensive. Also, I heard somewhere that black is good for business, haha!

The handle reminds me of a car's steering wheel. It feels secure, strong, and sturdy. In the middle, it has this soft part (see the ragged part in the middle of the handle?) that feels soft to touch so it won't feel as heavy when you carry it everywhere. Ain't that fabulous? It's just amazing!

It opens and closes in a firmly built clasp. No problems with its mechanics at all. It also comes with a lock but I decided to never ever lock it again because the first time I tried locking it, I find it too hard to unlock it so I just decided to ditch the keys. Maybe I would just use a belt to secure it when I transport it.

Once fully opened, it has a total of nine compartments: eight medium compartments (four on each side) and one huge compartment at the bottom. There's also a space where you can stand your brushes, foundations, and all your paraphernalia once you are on the set. It is such a lovely sight once you've set it up. The metal parts that connects the compartments are surprisingly very firm! You have to push it hard and strong to put it on place, it is not sloppy and it doesn't slide down when you've filled it up with too much product. It is very, very strong!

Put my little signature on the side just in case I lose it (I have this freaking fear of losing all my makeup, it's crazy)
Anyway, that's it for my new traincase, I will be doing a follow up on this post to tell you how I arrange my makeup on this case. This post is getting too long so I decided maybe next time I will show you.

That's it for now. Hope you have a great new year and may your endeavor be blessed always.

Love,

My PIERCINGS- Accidents, Stories, Reasons.. etc.

Elow elow elow Dear Reader! So, today, I bought new set of earrings and I realized, I haven't really talked about my piercing experience. So, I thought maybe I should answer some common questions about my piercings and piercing in general. How many piercings do you have? As of the moment, I have a total of six individual piercings. Three on the left ear, three on the right. When did you get them and why? 1. The first pair was done when I was four or five years old. I remember my father bringing me to a little health center and telling me to just tilt my head and that was it. I don't have much to say about this piercing because it was like a "default" kind of thing - sort of a tradition or one of those mandatory things a girl has to go through-  so nothing special in this pair. Also, I was too young to remember how it felt like. Too young to even comprehend. But I remember being happy having the privilege to wear such pretty gold earrings. I had the rest ...

Inspired by Mona Lisa Smile: Christian Dior Rouge Dolce Vita 014

Once a gay friend told me, "Red lipstick is so back then." I immediately replied back and told him a true lady would say otherwise. For a real woman, red lipstick is a timeless weapon to look and feel beautiful. My first lipstick is a red one and up until now, even if I have other shades of lipsticks, red will always be on my stash. So, today, I thought of highlighting the most precious red lipstick I own, my precious baby,  Christian Dior’s Rouge Dolce Vita in #014. Timeless as it is, the inspiration for today's lipstick is the movie The Mona Lisa Smile which is set in 1950's. Just like the girls in the movie,  Christian Dior’s Rouge Dolce Vita in #014 is not in-your-face retro red lipstick because it has a slight hint of orange. Source "That's a snapshot"- Mona Lisa Smile It has a semi-matte finish but very creamy, it glides smoothly on the lips when applied. This is not for the faint heart because it is too striking and...

TURNING PAGES: Outliers by Malcolm Gladwell

When I was in kindergarten, I had a hard time understanding Math specifically the lesson in  “greater than- less than-equal to” equations. My mother, being a teacher, helped me understand the lesson by using analogy . In a manner of storytelling, she told me that the sign corresponding greater than/less than/equal to is  Pacman  (the famous computer game back then), while the numbers in the equation represent the amount of apples . She told me I have to point Pacman’s mouth to the larger amount so he can eat more apples. I never failed at greater than/less than/equal to lesson ever again. SOURCE: h ttp://prekandksharing.blogspot.com/2012/08/montessori-inspired-greater-than-less.html Outliers  by Malcolm Gladwell is a lot like my mom’s way of teaching me Math. It is composed of analogies and stories that helped me understand the wisdom behind success. It will not tell you what to do, it will ask you to analyze the roots of success and w...

Review: In2it Waterproof Single Blush in Charm

This post is dedicated to my boyfriend's sister who loves to rave about in2it products. She loves the brand so much she's literally into it. (Can I get an A for that intro?) Anyways, one of the things I noticed about her is the beautiful shine she has on her cheeks - not greasy type of shine - but a lovely flash of highlight. So, I thought of trying out in2it's blush for the first time. When I went there, most of their blushes were sold out. The sales assistant said their blushes are their best sellers- no doubt about it. So, I asked her what shade can she recommend for my skin tone and she confidently suggested the shade "Charm." I tried out some of their blushes, pink ones in general, but Charm really stood out for me. The sales assistant was right, Charm definitely suites me better. In2it Waterproof Single Blush in Charm is a peach blush with gold shimmers. I, for one, am afraid of shimmers because my face tends to become very oily and to add more shi...

Inspired by JLO's Nude Lips: In2it Moisture Intense Lipstick in Orange Fizz

I have always been on the hunt for a nice nude lipstick that can beautifully mute my pigmented lips. The desire to rummage around for the best neutral lipstick started when I would always see myself being drawn to wearing dark hues of eyeshadows, only to find out I have no nude lipstick to pair it with. I would always end up wearing light pink lipstick which I think is just fine but I wish I could have a neutral colored lipstick so the eyeshadows can pop rather than making the lipstick clash to the eye make-up. Should I say my hunt is always a fail. Sometimes, it’s too pale, too light, a lot of browns, lots of pinks, always a fail. What I really want to have is the kind of lipstick that will definitely erase my lips but won’t make me appear sickly. Arrrgh! Women are such confused beings! Anyways, this is how nude I want my lipstick to be… Girl crushing is on! I always wonder how JLO rock the nude up until I saw I video of youtuber Jenn Im where the girl uses not brown or light...

Wedding Bliss: The Importance of Wedding Coordinator (Quintessence Philippines)

I am quite surprised that even after being married for almost a year now, I still get a ton of queries regarding wedding details and such. One common question I get is this: "Do I really need a wedding day coordinator?". My answer is always, always this big YES. Well, based on my experience, you can get away without an over-all full wedding coordinator because you can do the planning alone. However- and very important, I must say, that you get an on-the-day-coordinator . And please do get a legit one, not your friends or family, but a professional wedding coor. (Your friends want to enjoy the moment, too, so please don't give them yet another job to do. They can assist you in little things, but please leave everything to a legit coor.) Some reasons why I think a professional on-the-day wedding coordinator is a must: 1. Stress-free wedding.  The least I wanted to be during my wedding is to be the stressed-bride. I have been to weddings without coordinators and I tell...

Jazzy Collections Eyebrow Gel

I was doing a little stroll along beauty section when the sales assistant asked me, "Ma'am, ano pong nilagay niyo sa kilay nio, ang ganda kasi e, sanay na sanay kayo magkilay..." "Maam, what product did you use on your eyebrows? You are really good on doing your brows!"  Truth is, I wasn't always this good with brows. I had my fair share of uneven brows, messy brows, overplucked, bushy, wrong shape, wrong curves. But by having those mistakes, I learned how to perfect my brows, I learned by doing, which I think is one of the most important thing when it comes to make-up. You learn every single time you do it. I still do mistakes from time to time, and I am still improving every single day, but I guess that's just the beauty of make-up. Sometimes, you've created a masterpiece, sometimes, you've created a trash... in that way, you enhance your skills. Okay, did I just became very sentimental about eyebrows? Yes, I did. Anyways,  ...
