August is my birthday month so instead of doing my usual "Pieces of My Month" series, I decided to make it more special by doing series of posts called "My Birthday Shenanigans." I know that this has been an overdue post as we are already running through "BER" months, but as I have said before, it is better to post late than never.
Anyways, one of the major things I did during my birthday was to take a tour around ABS-CBN studio. ABS-CBN is the largest broadcasting network in the Philippines as far as I know. So, if you are living in the Philippines, there is no way you do not know what ABS-CBN is. It has produced tons of television shows, entertainers, artists, broadcasters, movies, etc. My brother and my sister-in-law (who was also celebrating her birthday that day) were kind enough to invite me to join them in seeing the "behind the scenes" of TV production.

We came in the building around 8am and we are the first ones to come. (Excited much?) To validate our reservation, we were asked to register inside the "studio tour" area, and then the staff led us through a little room where our tour guide made some presentation about the history of ABS-CBN.
After the presentation and orientation, we then went to different studios around the building. We saw the set of different television shows such as Gandang Gabi Vice, Showtime, Singing Bee, Aquino and Abunda, TV Patrol, Salamat Dok, etc. We were also led outside the radio booth of DZMM (their radio counterpart).

My favorite room was definitely the props room. I admit that I am not really a fan of telenovelas (especially the fantasy ones) but having seen these TV props made me respect the hardwork and effort the prod team put in all their shows.

It wasn't indicated where did they use this mask but I really like the way it looked so I took a photo of it. Ain't she a beaut? |
I think this set is used in the underwater kingdom of Dyesebel. It actually looked fancier in real life than in TV. |
I never liked Zuma, Truth is, I am afraid of him-- but this statue is well damn good! |
The famous "Deal or No Deal" cases. (What number would you pick?) |
My camera doesn't do any justice to this lovely gown used by Miss Kathryn Bernardo on her 18th birthday. |
After the tour around the building, we took a little break first before heading out to a weekly noon time variety/musical show called ASAP 19. Around 11am, we were finally inside the ASAP studio. Here are some snapshots of the show:
As for me, the whole tour reminded me of my college days. When I was just a young Mass Communication student, we were often required to watch a certain live TV production or go see a live radio broadcasting, I guess being around a TV network once again reminded me of my younger years and how much of it was now just a memory -- and I realized, ah, I have grown so much already.
Till my next shenanigans... Bye!!!
