When Should You Throw Away Your Mascara

"I know I should throw this mascara, I know. But, I love it so much and I can't throw it yet. Not yet. It still fine. I guess. It has a lot of product inside so I think this can still last till next month."

That was the exact thought I had before putting on my mascara this morning. I had this intuition that my favorite Maybelline Superfilm is getting old because lately I've been feeling some stinging on my eyes when I apply it so I know I should stash it already. This is the first mascara I fell in love with. I used to hate wearing one, not until I found this baby. But then, I know I've been using this for six months now and it's time I let it go (Idina Menzel singing in the background) but I've been so stubborn to throw it away because:
one, I don't have any budget for a mascara because I am saving for my emergency fund;
two, I am anticipating a Maybelline sale so I could buy this awesome product again
three, my frugal self feels there's still too much product inside that I feel like wasting make-up if ever I throw this one.

BEFORE
This is how exactly what it looks like when I bought it.

AFTER
Now it looks like this, months after using it for almost every day!!!

In short, I just don't want to throw it away.
So, I still decided to put it on. (Wrong decision, btw.)

Few minutes after application, I felt the stinging on  my eye especially on the left eye.
There. That's it. That's the final blow.
So, I immediately get some wet wipes (good thing it's waterproof) and I had to remove all my eye make-up. It finally convinced me it's time to say goodbye to my Superfilm or I will end up having some eye infection or some sort.

It got me into thinking, how many girls are like me who hold on to their mascaras even though it's time to let them go. Since mascaras have small life span, we tend to extend its life by neglecting the signs and convince ourselves "pwede pa."

You have to throw it when:
1. It's 3-6 months old already. Unlike powders, liquid make-up is prone to bacteria because they tend to stay on moisturized place. You have to change mascaras months after using it (not a year).
2. You are smelling something funky when you open it. This is the most obvious indication that your mascara has already gone old. You know it when you smell it. If you are not liking what you smell when you are opening that tube, well then, throw it away, throw it now.
3. You are feeling some stinging on your eyes when you apply it. As what happened to me, my eyes are not accepting the product anymore. If your eyes are drying and hurting after product application, I guess it's time to replace that mascara.
4. It has dried out. This just means your mascara is too old already! Throw it out now!

Don't ignore these signs ladies. Eye infection is not pretty. So, always be aware of your make-up life span. Don't be too negligent on what you put on your face especially on your eyes. So, always be careful.

As for my old mascara---well, thank you, Maybelline Superfilm. You are really worth it but I have to replace you now...

Okay, that's too much drama for you guys.

Till next time!

Always remember, you are marvellous much!

Love,

Pieces of My Month March

Happy Tuesday everyone! I have just realized that the first quarter of 2014 have passed and I am loving my year so far. There are times when I wish I could have done more but I guess it's better to give myself a pat on the back and celebrate my successes rather than being too harsh on myself. Sometimes, I tend to forget I can only do enough. First week of March, I was able to celebrate Fat Tuesday with my church friends. Fat Tuesday, if you have no idea what it is, is  the day before Ash Wednesday--the start of Lenten season.  Since Fat Tuesday is the day before fasting and abstinence, devout Catholics are having a merry gathering of food and laughter before pursuing a month of sacrifice and soul-searching.   Aside from the beginning of Lenten season, March also marks the start of summer. I had an early summer with my friends at Bakas River, Norzagaray, Bulacan. The place is such a marvellous tranquil, perfect for escaping the urban life. . ...

My PIERCINGS- Accidents, Stories, Reasons.. etc.

Elow elow elow Dear Reader! So, today, I bought new set of earrings and I realized, I haven't really talked about my piercing experience. So, I thought maybe I should answer some common questions about my piercings and piercing in general. How many piercings do you have? As of the moment, I have a total of six individual piercings. Three on the left ear, three on the right. When did you get them and why? 1. The first pair was done when I was four or five years old. I remember my father bringing me to a little health center and telling me to just tilt my head and that was it. I don't have much to say about this piercing because it was like a "default" kind of thing - sort of a tradition or one of those mandatory things a girl has to go through-  so nothing special in this pair. Also, I was too young to remember how it felt like. Too young to even comprehend. But I remember being happy having the privilege to wear such pretty gold earrings. I had the rest ...

You Can't Eat Beauty

"My mother used to say to me, "You can’t eat beauty, it doesn’t feed you." And these words played and bothered me, I didn’t really understand them until finally I realized that beauty was not a thing that I could acquire or consume. It was something that I just had to be. And what my mother meant by saying that "you can’t eat beauty" was that you can’t rely on beauty to sustain you.  What actually sustains us, what is fundamentally beautiful is compassion for yourself and those around you. That kind of beauty enflames the heart and enchants the soul."

Curly Find: Dove Nourishing Curls Whipped Cream Mousse

Living in a country where straight hair rules, finding a good styling product for the curly hair is such a pain in the ey-ess-ess. For the past few months, I've been experimenting on different hair products, mixing and jumbling all sorts of creams, mousse, gels, etc etc. Product after product, layers after layers.  I honestly sometimes feel like going back to straight hair is way easier and economical, than spending so much money on hair products, but then I do love my current buhahag hairstyle- I feel some sense of uniqueness and personality with this kind of hair- so I think I wold just go on with this journey and just enjoy every part of it. So, today, I thought I would share my experience with this Dove Nourishing Curls Whipped Cream Mousse.  This is by far, my favorite mousse cream for my curly hair. Let me tell you some of my opinions regarding this product.  1. SMELL - Oh. Goodness. I love the smell of this one right out of the can. This is...

REVIEW: L.A. Girl Gel Liner

Hello hello hello! Three reviews in three consecutive days? Wow, this girl is on Fa-yah! Okay, let's do this. Today, I get a little overboard editing some of my photos through editing app called Decopic. Ang cute cute! Been wanting to put stamps on my photos, and I tried some apps but I can't seem to find the kawaii app that suits all my needs. Finally now I have Decopic. Ain't she lovely? I spent like hours tweaking my photos... Anyways--- (Sorry I forgot this is about an eyeliner, not an app. hihihi) Howell, been using this gel liner for two weeks now and I thought I might do a review on this one because (surprise surprise) I love it! I really haven't heard anything about this gel liner as compared to some popular drugstore gel liners such as  from Wet n Wild and Maybelline so I don't have much expectation about this product. But then, as I use every single day, I am actually enjoying it. Mine is in brown shade. Well, I do prefer brown ...
