The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug

I literally spent this month obsessing with The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug, which is quite a surprise for me because though I like the first one, I am not as addicted to it compared to their recent and second installment. So, today, I am enumerating the things I find interesting with The Hobbit: DOS.

Source: Warner Bros. Pictures

1. I feel LOTR all over again.
Some  Tolkien fans don't like that it is quite similar to LOTR. I don't see the point of disliking it. In fact, if you are truly an LOTR fan, it would be a pleasure to watch The Hobbit because it again takes you to the middle earth. The battle of races, the darkness and lightness, the music! AGGHHH!!! It was such a marvellous experience.  Who doesn't want to be taken back to the middle earth? Also, The Hobbit: DOS is obviously the prequel of LOTR by showing several common details such as supposed Sam's parents, Gimli's baby picture, and the ring!-- aghh! the ring. How can you not dislike seeing it again?

2.Bilbo Baggins is the main character.
I now understand why this movie was named as "The Hobbit" because you could really see Bilbo's contributions to the group. On the first film, I feel there's too much dwarfism that I even thought to myself, this film should be named "The Dwarves" rather than The Hobbit. In this second part of the trilogy, I saw Bilbo's presence. I felt his courage. I felt him taking over the leadership, I felt his intelligence and wit. He may be the smallest amongst the crowd, but he helped them in one way or another. I think this is the main soul of the film. It is the reason why tolkien wrote this story--to let small people know that courage will open up your soul and though you are small, you can help other people in your own way.

3. The she-elf, Tauriel
Here's a thing: Tauriel is not part of the book, and I believe it was such a marvellous thing to include her in the movie.Thank you, Director Peter Jackson. As a woman myself, I love her bad ass character. She is the reason why I like this movie because I feel connected having a woman-fighter, much more an archer, to look up to. My favorite character in LOTR is Galadriel because of her womanly power and ethereal character. In this movie, I can say I found my hero in Tauriel, which I havent found in the first The Hobbit.

4. Kili and Tauriel Love Story
There's a huge debate whether it is necessary to include their love story in the movie. Others say that an elf is unlikely to fall in love with an dwarf. However, I think what makes their love story interesting is their differences with each other. With the addition of Legolas being the third party, I feel Jackson is brewing something with their love triangle. Okay. Maybe I am just a hopeless romantic or maybe I am a girl but I am smitten by their story. I love their tandem so so so so much (I could literally fill this sentence with lots of so's just to show how much I loved their affection with each other.) I love all their scenes together, their fighting choreography, their mutual affection to each other. Again,  thank you, Peter Jackson for that. I also like the idea that it is the woman saving the man, and she is taller than him. (haha) Maybe I am a feminist but I don't care.

5. Battle of Different Races
As I have told you, I feel the first film is flooded with lots of dwarves, and lacking with other characters. In this second part, I saw and felt different races, The lovely elves are here, The frightening orcs, even the humans, and of course Smaug, the dragon... they are all here. Now I see the film rolling and it was such a delight to see their differences and the politics and all.

I've read several reviews and they are quite mean to the movie. Even my brother don't like the movie at all. Well, I guess we all have our own aesthetics. As for me, I love it to bits and I can't wait to watch their third installment.

That's all for now.
Till next time.
Love,

My PIERCINGS- Accidents, Stories, Reasons.. etc.

Elow elow elow Dear Reader! So, today, I bought new set of earrings and I realized, I haven't really talked about my piercing experience. So, I thought maybe I should answer some common questions about my piercings and piercing in general. How many piercings do you have? As of the moment, I have a total of six individual piercings. Three on the left ear, three on the right. When did you get them and why? 1. The first pair was done when I was four or five years old. I remember my father bringing me to a little health center and telling me to just tilt my head and that was it. I don't have much to say about this piercing because it was like a "default" kind of thing - sort of a tradition or one of those mandatory things a girl has to go through-  so nothing special in this pair. Also, I was too young to remember how it felt like. Too young to even comprehend. But I remember being happy having the privilege to wear such pretty gold earrings. I had the rest ...

TURNING PAGES: Outliers by Malcolm Gladwell

When I was in kindergarten, I had a hard time understanding Math specifically the lesson in  “greater than- less than-equal to” equations. My mother, being a teacher, helped me understand the lesson by using analogy . In a manner of storytelling, she told me that the sign corresponding greater than/less than/equal to is  Pacman  (the famous computer game back then), while the numbers in the equation represent the amount of apples . She told me I have to point Pacman’s mouth to the larger amount so he can eat more apples. I never failed at greater than/less than/equal to lesson ever again. It is composed of analogies and stories that helped me understand the wisdom behind success. It will not tell you what to do, it will ask you to analyze the roots of success and w...

Inspired by Mona Lisa Smile: Christian Dior Rouge Dolce Vita 014

Once a gay friend told me, "Red lipstick is so back then." I immediately replied back and told him a true lady would say otherwise. For a real woman, red lipstick is a timeless weapon to look and feel beautiful. My first lipstick is a red one and up until now, even if I have other shades of lipsticks, red will always be on my stash. So, today, I thought of highlighting the most precious red lipstick I own, my precious baby,  Christian Dior’s Rouge Dolce Vita in #014. Timeless as it is, the inspiration for today's lipstick is the movie The Mona Lisa Smile which is set in 1950's. Just like the girls in the movie,  Christian Dior’s Rouge Dolce Vita in #014 is not in-your-face retro red lipstick because it has a slight hint of orange. Source "That's a snapshot"- Mona Lisa Smile It has a semi-matte finish but very creamy, it glides smoothly on the lips when applied. This is not for the faint heart because it is too striking and...

On Self-Acceptance

It was late September when I started "Marvellous Much." For two months, I labored myself from taking photos to writing to editing and then publishing. I took this as my own, my baby, my little sanctuary. Although I've done several blogs before, this is the first time I have ever done a blog that is somehow commercial and is focusing on a certain niche. I aim to create a professional blog on this one, something that I can give to the world. Every now and then, before I click the "publish" button, I would see myself stepping back and forth. I know I doubt myself so much. I always see myself as not good enough. Every time I would go public, things scream unto my head - words such as "what will they think of my work?" "Is this great?" "Will the people like it?" I hate this thing about myself. When you lack confidence, you lack strength. I hate myself for this. I hate that I sometimes hate myself. However, for the past two months, wi...

You Can't Eat Beauty

"My mother used to say to me, "You can’t eat beauty, it doesn’t feed you." And these words played and bothered me, I didn’t really understand them until finally I realized that beauty was not a thing that I could acquire or consume. It was something that I just had to be. And what my mother meant by saying that "you can’t eat beauty" was that you can’t rely on beauty to sustain you.  What actually sustains us, what is fundamentally beautiful is compassion for yourself and those around you. That kind of beauty enflames the heart and enchants the soul."

Honeymoon in Palawan: Bakers Hill, Buttterfly Garden, Immaculate Conception Cathedral

So, after two days spent in El Nido Tour A , Tour C , and the ever famous Underground River, we continue our Palawan escapade via our rented motorcycle. After Mitra's Ranch , we went to Baker's Hill, Immaculate Conception Cathedral, and Butterfly Garden.  This is one of the several posts I made about our Trip to Palawan. Here are the links to other posts for your convenience: El Nido Tour A El Nido Tour C Underground River Mitra's Ranch Bakers Hill, Butterfly Garden and Tribal Village, Immaculate Conception Cathedral Palawan Wildlife Rescue and Conservation Center Palawan Museum and Plaza Cuartel BAKER'S HILL When we were at Baker's Hill, I was kind of wondering why it's called as such because it looked like a park and not a bakery. Later did I know that it is actually a theme park with bakery inside.  BUTTERFLY GARDEN One of my favorite attractions in Puerto Princesa, Butterfly Garden is the home to hundre...

Review: In2it Waterproof Single Blush in Charm

This post is dedicated to my boyfriend's sister who loves to rave about in2it products. She loves the brand so much she's literally into it. (Can I get an A for that intro?) Anyways, one of the things I noticed about her is the beautiful shine she has on her cheeks - not greasy type of shine - but a lovely flash of highlight. So, I thought of trying out in2it's blush for the first time. When I went there, most of their blushes were sold out. The sales assistant said their blushes are their best sellers- no doubt about it. So, I asked her what shade can she recommend for my skin tone and she confidently suggested the shade "Charm." I tried out some of their blushes, pink ones in general, but Charm really stood out for me. The sales assistant was right, Charm definitely suites me better. In2it Waterproof Single Blush in Charm is a peach blush with gold shimmers. I, for one, am afraid of shimmers because my face tends to become very oily and to add more shi...
