MAC RubyWoo, The Unique and The Common

This year, I told myself to "Just buy that lipstick already"- you know, that very lipstick you've been lemming to buy but won't. Yes, I have that. And for me, it was Mac Ruby Woo.

For years, I've been eyeing this particular lipstick but because of so many hesitations,i.e. pricetag, I wasn't able to get one.

But then, there will come a time in a girl's life when she will finally give in to the call of "luho" and treat herself to a shiny sparkly tube.

So... is it all I've been dreaming of?

We'll see... shall we?.

So what makes this a better choice than other red lipstick?

1. Texture
Oh goodness. This lipstick is the very definition of matte. If you haven't tried the retro matte finish of MAC lipsticks, you probably don't know what matte truly means. That is speaking by my own experience. I thought I have tried matte lipsticks already, but no no. This ruby woo looks different and feels different. I call it "red carpet" in my lips. It has this velvet-ish texture, a perfect retro red. It doesn't have a single shine to it and it really looks so pin-up-like. Though it's matte, it is not waxy compared to some  matte lipsticks I have. It feels like a lipstick with a bit of powder on top- yes, that's how smooth it feels on the lips.

2. Pigmentation
To be honest, I hate the word "pigmented" but I really need the word to describe this Ruby Woo. This lipstick is perfect for photoshoots and stage performances wherein you need real pigment in your lips. This is the reason why some celebrities, local and international, love this lipstick. It's pigment looks so good, better even, in photos.

3. Scent
I love the scent- and this is coming from someone who doesn't love scented lipsticks or cosmetics. The scent reminds me of cupcakes, sweet and vanilla-like. Sometimes, I would open the tube just to smell it. That's how I love this lipstick so much.

4. Lasting Power
It can stay on the lips for good amount of time especially if you are really careful about it. This happens to most matte lipsticks since they don't have any moisture to make the product slide off the lips.

5. Color
So before purchasing this tube, I asked my boyfriend to choose Ruby Woo and Russion Red. Immediately my boyfriend chose Ruby Woo, and his exact description is "Mukhang parang masarap halikan". (Looks kissable) Haha. I commend my bf for saying that because that is just how Ruby Woo looks like in the lips. It has this enough vibrancy to it that makes the lips luscious, sexy, and just what my bf told me, kissable.

Shameless effin selfie. wth. hehehe!

Cons:

1. Flakey
After wearing a couple of hours, I experience flakiness and my lips gets wrinkly and cracking. This is dryness to the nth power like really really dry and it gets even more dry as it stays on the lips. Sometimes it bugs me, sometimes it doesn't, but I think this is a major con for this lipstick. Sometimes, flakes of lipstick will get into your teeth and I hate it. I am also becoming more and more conscious because of the flakyness that I have to check every now and then if it still looks okay.

2. Application
"It thugs on the lips" is just what they say. Application is troublesome, especially on the edges, not ideal for girls who are too lazy to be precise. This is given because of it's dry texture. To combat this, I use a lipbrush for application and outline my lips with lipliner. With this method, though it creates beautiful red lips, it is definitely time consuming as opposed to just applying the product directly from the tube.
3. Pricey
1000 pesos for a lipstick is still too much for me, but it's an investment. I can use this color for everything, so I guess it's worth it if you love wearing red lipstick like me. Well, maybe I am just justifying the cost. It's MAC after all. Nakakashala.

My final say is that just go for this iconic lipstick if you want that KatVoND, pin-up, matte, blue based red, but be prepared for dryness and flakeyness.

Till my next chitchat.

Byeeeeeee!!!!!

My PIERCINGS- Accidents, Stories, Reasons.. etc.

Elow elow elow Dear Reader! So, today, I bought new set of earrings and I realized, I haven't really talked about my piercing experience. So, I thought maybe I should answer some common questions about my piercings and piercing in general. How many piercings do you have? As of the moment, I have a total of six individual piercings. Three on the left ear, three on the right. When did you get them and why? 1. The first pair was done when I was four or five years old. I remember my father bringing me to a little health center and telling me to just tilt my head and that was it. I don't have much to say about this piercing because it was like a "default" kind of thing - sort of a tradition or one of those mandatory things a girl has to go through-  so nothing special in this pair. Also, I was too young to remember how it felt like. Too young to even comprehend. But I remember being happy having the privilege to wear such pretty gold earrings. I had the rest ...

On Self-Acceptance

It was late September when I started "Marvellous Much." For two months, I labored myself from taking photos to writing to editing and then publishing. I took this as my own, my baby, my little sanctuary. Although I've done several blogs before, this is the first time I have ever done a blog that is somehow commercial and is focusing on a certain niche. I aim to create a professional blog on this one, something that I can give to the world. Every now and then, before I click the "publish" button, I would see myself stepping back and forth. I know I doubt myself so much. I always see myself as not good enough. Every time I would go public, things scream unto my head - words such as "what will they think of my work?" "Is this great?" "Will the people like it?" I hate this thing about myself. When you lack confidence, you lack strength. I hate myself for this. I hate that I sometimes hate myself. However, for the past two months, wi...

Kulot Not Salot: My Curly Hair Routine

I'm still surprised when friends won't believe when I tell them my hair is naturally curly and that I never had a digi perm or any curling method done. People have been seeing me with rebonded straight hair for the past 12 years, (I thought it was only 10) and they have kind of believed my hair is naturally straight. And frankly, I, too, have forgotten how I looked like with curly hair. I have to rummage a box of old photos to help me remember how my curls looked like a decade ago and why do I even have it straightened. Was it that bad? After almost an hour of looking for old photos of my natural curls- this I realized to my chagrin - I rarely wore my curly hair down when I was a teenager. That was basically the reason why I had my hair rebonded. I did not know what to do with my curls. I did not know how to maximize my curls, its beauty, how to style it, how to play with it. And also- hair entails personality. You see, living in this country,...

BDJ FAIR 2015

This is my third time to go to this yearly event hosted by BDJ. First time, I went with a friend (Well, hello Ghem!). The next one, boyfie was with me. This time, I decided to just go by myself . I tried to maximize the event so I spent the whole afternoon going from one booth to another. I also pre-registered to two talks/seminars to get an insight or two. If you haven't heard of them yet, BDJ is a community of empowered bellas. Actually, it all started with a kikay planner- The Belle de jour Power planner. Then a community was formed involving mostly users of planners and  kikay girls alike. As for me, I've been a BDJ planner user for five years. I go to the event (if time allows me to) because this is where I can buy the new and upcoming planner in a much lower price compared to its selling price. I bought my new planner for only 500 pesos as opposed to its original selling price of 580. Also, the event is actually pretty cool. You can go around, win some fu...

Wedding Bliss: Catholic Wedding @ San Juan dela Cruz Parish

June is known to be the wedding month and I think there's a little truth to that because I personally have been to two weddings in this month alone- and it's only June 10 as I type this. I heard it's because June was coined after the Goddess of Love, Juno. So, in lieu of this wedding season, I thought of doing a Wedding Series called Wedding Bliss where I talk about our suppliers when we got married April last year and some other wedding pointers. I will first start with our Wedding Church, which is  San Juan dela Cruz Parish in Valenzuela City. This church is a default choice because this is where me and my husband met (both of us are in music ministry) so if not for this church, I wouldn't have met my husband. Also, serving in this church for almost a decade made it not just a place of worship, but a second home to us, too. All our friends are also parishioners from SJDC, including our Parish Priest, Father Mulong, who is also the presiding priest during our we...

Inspired by Mona Lisa Smile: Christian Dior Rouge Dolce Vita 014

Once a gay friend told me, "Red lipstick is so back then." I immediately replied back and told him a true lady would say otherwise. For a real woman, red lipstick is a timeless weapon to look and feel beautiful. My first lipstick is a red one and up until now, even if I have other shades of lipsticks, red will always be on my stash. So, today, I thought of highlighting the most precious red lipstick I own, my precious baby,  Christian Dior’s Rouge Dolce Vita in #014. Timeless as it is, the inspiration for today's lipstick is the movie The Mona Lisa Smile which is set in 1950's. Just like the girls in the movie,  Christian Dior’s Rouge Dolce Vita in #014 is not in-your-face retro red lipstick because it has a slight hint of orange. Source "That's a snapshot"- Mona Lisa Smile It has a semi-matte finish but very creamy, it glides smoothly on the lips when applied. This is not for the faint heart because it is too striking and...
